Pattern Party

Trying to force my way back into work mode with some abstract pattern experimentation. I got out my oil pastels yesterday and scribbled away, nothing too detailed or impressive, but enough to photograph and manipulate into usable patterns!

Pattern Bonanza

I have endless uses for abstract patterns. Endless. Society6, the backgrounds of my illustrations, wallpapers, gift wrap, silk scarves, just to look at and day dream into... I could make them all day every day if someone would just PAY ME.

I made painted gift wrap with the intention of also photographing it to add to my growing bank of homemade textures/patterns. I made the four patterns below using 4 photos of my painted gift wrap, and will be making many, many more.

New on Society 6!

Society6 is very fun for me. I love having an excuse to make patterns, and more than that I love being able to order and wear my own art. When I think about owning a house in the future I imagine it decorated with all sorts of custom pillows and rugs, canvases...

For now I can only afford smaller items, which I buy when there is a free shipping promotion on. I recently bought a beautiful mermaid scale tote bag and it arrived just days before my birthday! I feel extra magical when I lug it around with me, and I bought it in the smallest size available which is actually perfect for carrying everyday junk with me. The last tote bag I bought from Society6 was the largest size, perfect for going to the beach or filling with laundry.

SHOWER CURTAINS

Since becoming a work from home illustrator I have also become a bit of a bathaholic. I take a bath every day, for long periods of time, in increasingly hot water. It seems to be the only way I can relax and slow down my thoughts.

Today while posting the cutest pink donut pattern (below) to Society6 I learned that I can now make and purchase custom SHOWER CURTAINS.

These are the cutest pillows you have ever seen.
I had a bath revelation a few weeks ago about how your shower curtain should look beautiful from the INSIDE of the bath, and I have been dreaming of colourful paintbrushy shower curtains ever since. I really hope the pattern on the shower curtain is double sided, knowing Society6 and the quality of their items, it will be.

The description of the shower curtain is:

"Customize your bathroom decor with unique shower curtains designed by artists around the world. Made from 100% polyester our designer shower curtains are printed in the USA and feature a 12 button-hole top for simple hanging. The easy care material allows for machine wash and dry maintenance. Curtain rod, shower curtain liner and hooks not included. Dimensions are 71in. by 74in."

I can't wait to make my colourful dream shower curtain!
For now, lets look at how some of the art I already have up translates to shower curtain form:

The first thing I noticed was how well octopus art translates to shower curtains!

Pink cats, or a little ice cream sundae!

OBLIGATORY VALENTINE'S DAY POST

The month of love hasn't been super romantic for Eric and I. First Eric was sick with a gross snotty coughy cold, and now I am! I've been doing weird things like sleeping from 11:30 - 4 am and then just getting up and staying up all day... which I'm sure isn't helping my body, but dammit I can't breathe!!!

Despite our gross sick month of loving only Nyquil, I have been doodling some romantic things. Unfortunately I have finished a few today, the day before Valentine's day, when most (organized) people have already purchased cards and gifts, but I figured I could always use them to send to greeting card companies asking for money.

I had originally done an illustration of some coffee, biscuits, and donuts, and then this morning I woke up and thought "YOU'RE THE DONUT TO MY COFFEE". Thanks brain. I added a soft amazing bluey purple drop shadow that I'm super happy with. Yay for non-cheesy drop shadows.

The other love themed illustration I worked on was inspired by my two cats, Harpo and Groucho, who are completely in love with one another. They are constantly cleaning one another, snuggling, and falling asleep together.

I wanted to turn it into a cute card, so I chose the tagline "this is perfect"... I thought it was simple and sweet, and I hope you are all grateful that I did not make a pun. My dad thinks the pun would make it better but NO. NO PUNS.

Two variations on the donut card, and the cat card are available on Society6! Maybe... for next Valentine's day?

*edit*

I made this too

WATERMELON PARTY HAS ARRIVED

A few weeks ago I excitedly ordered a WATERMELON PARTY pillow cover off of my Society6 page, not really knowing what the quality of the fabric + printing would be like... now it has arrived, and it is absolutely beautiful. The pillows are printed on both sides, and the artwork looks exactly as it does on my screen. I am thrilled with this pillow. Random Acts of Pastel's pooch Honey is also a fan.

Penny ordered a GREEN VEGETABLE PATTERN pillow cover, and had it shipped to my house because people steal packages that are left outside of her place. It is so vibrant and glorious! I really can't get over the printing quality.

Art on Society6

I have been meaning to get on Society6 since forever, but it took a recent nudge from Alyssa at Random Acts of Pastel  for me to get around to it. I am SO GLAD I DID. Not because I am making any money at all, because I'm not, but because I can see my art in pillow form. I love throw pillows, LOVE them, and I have been uploading images just to see what they would look in pillow form and dream about them in my future amazing house that I am really far away from owning.

Spoiler, they all look awesome and I want them all.
